Lindsay Lohan Compares Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner To Michael Lohan and His Girlfriend on Twitter

Lindsay Lohan Compares Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner To Michael Lohan and His Girlfriend on Twitter

Lindsay Lohan is insane. Seriously. She belongs in a crazy person home for as long as possible. After missing out on the shine of the Golden Globe Awards, La Lohan decided to take to Twitter to voice her oh-so-eloquent opinion on Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. In this tweet, Lohan wrote, ?Ben Affleck!! Yay! So smart and classic. He and Jen Garner remind me of?@mikelohan?and his wonderful girlfriend.? Is she serious right now? How, in all that is holy, can her father, Michael Lohan, and his girlfriend, remind her of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner?

Firstly, nothing about Michael Lohan is classy. Secondly, did Lindsay down the Tequila again? And lastly, who even cares what Lindsay has to say about the movie industry? Last time we checked, Lindsay was still falling apart one scene at a time. Only recently, Lindsay?s co-star in The Canyons ? porn star James Deen ? opened up about his working experience with the living dummy that is Lindsay. He loves her, even though she swore at him and told him to ?do his f***ing job? ? maybe that?s how world famous porn stars operate, you know?

Ultimately, Lindsay is ripping apart at the seams like a ragdoll. Her acting career is, so to say,? over, her personal life is in more shambles than a homeless woman at a haunted house, and her family is as torn apart as an overweight kid at a bully gathering. Perhaps Lindsay Lohan should be introduced to Taylor Swift? (Hey! They?re single and ready to mingle!) They are both useless tabloid archetypes in the entertainment industry, so no one would really care what happens to them in the long run.

Oh joy (read sarcasm), we can?t wait to see Lindsay?s intelligent tweets during Oscar night ? the one place where Lindsay will never, ever, be seen at.

Senator Rand Paul's son accused of assault in airline fracas

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Reuters) - North Carolina police have accused the 19-year-old son of U.S. Senator Rand Paul of assaulting a flight attendant during an incident that led to his arrest on disorderly conduct charges earlier this month, authorities said on Monday.

Police arrested William Hilton Paul, who is also the grandson of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, on January 5 at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where he had arrived on a US Airways flight from Kentucky.

Jail records at the time showed the younger Paul was booked on three misdemeanor charges, including disorderly conduct, consuming alcohol while underage and being intoxicated and disruptive.

But Charlotte police also arrested him on a simple assault charge involving a 22-year-old female flight attendant, an incident report shows. Police confirmed the charge on Monday.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released few details about the arrest. It was unclear from police reports whether the alleged assault occurred during the flight or after the plane landed.

A spokesman for US Airways previously said there was a "passenger disruption" on the flight in question but that it did not result from alcohol being served by the airline.

Rand Paul, a Republican, is the junior senator from Kentucky. His office has asked for privacy on the matter of his son.

William Hilton Paul is due in court on the charges on February 25, police said.

96% Monsters, Inc. 3D

All Critics (181) | Top Critics (40) | Fresh (185) | Rotten (8) | DVD (45)

This didn't need 3D to work. It long ago passed the kids-wear-out-the-DVD-rewatching-it test.

It may be harder nowadays to dazzle audiences with fancy visual effects, but Monsters, Inc. 3D proves that smart, imaginative storytelling still does the trick every time.

Most of the charm of "Monsters Inc." comes from its vocal cast.

If history is any guide, you and your family - whether young or old - will probably want to see "Monsters University" over and over.

The movie itself stands up well, even from an adult, two-dimensional perspective.

Its reassuring message is more relevant than ever.

Now in 3D, the filmmakers have created a wonderful reality - the reality of Monstropolis, which like the worlds of Oz and Pleasantville, whisk us far, far away on a magic carpet of fantasy

A shrewdly timed reminder of Pixar's early, heady days, when the animation powerhouse could do no wrong.

There's really little reason to check out Monsters, Inc. 3D in... well, 3D, rather than going for a good old-fashioned 2D screening instead.

It does well, but not brilliantly: an amusing trifle from a studio whose best work still lay ahead of it.

Not quite a Pixar classic, but funny, witty and visually spectacular enough to be enjoyed again on the big screen.

Monsters, Inc. continues a positive 3D trend for the company, who appear to be selecting their upgraded titles wisely, choosing features that benefit from the additional depth.

Not even the opportunistic 3D-ification can squander the pure delight of the film's meticulously detailed world of ragtag creatures.

[A] sparkling cartoon ...

John Lasseter and the Pixar crew know how to turn shared human feelings and experiences into strange and delightful animated features. "Monsters, Inc." is one of their most solid efforts.

A typically engrossing Pixar effort...

Cute, kid-friendly monster movie; may scare sensitive kids.

Though "Monsters, Inc." relies more on spinning-plates plot than its Pixar peers, this romp retains the charm and heart of the animation juggernaut's forte - adding extra to ordinary hopes, in this case leaving great impressions on the kids we love.

A charming cartoon classic coming courtesy of a successful collaboration by the good folks at Disney and Pixar.

Credit Suisse to cut bonus pool by 20 percent: paper

ZURICH (Reuters) - Credit Suisse will cut its bonus pool for 2012 by 20 percent to around 2.3 billion Swiss francs ($2.52 billion), the fourth year in a row the Swiss bank has slashed payouts, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Citing unnamed sources, Der Sonntag newspaper said the 20,000 employees of Credit Suisse's investment bank were allocated significantly over 1 billion francs, while the 14,000 staff of the private bank would get some 400-500 million francs.

A Credit Suisse spokeswoman declined to comment.

The expected payout of 2.3 billion francs compares to 3 billion francs the bank allotted to bonuses in 2011 and 5 billion it paid in 2010. Der Sonntag said the bonus pool was likely to sink another 20 percent this year to 1.8 billion francs.

Credit Suisse, which like other global investment banks has suffered from sluggish markets in the wake of the financial crisis, is axing jobs as it seeks to make 4 billion francs of cost savings by 2015.

Reuters reported earlier this month that the bank is preparing to offload more risk exposure to investment bank staff in its 2012 bonus giveaway but significantly fewer managers will be allowed to join the scheme.

The creation of a new Credit Suisse scheme comes as banks bow to the demands of shareholders and regulators to move away from cash bonuses in favor of alternatives that are more aligned with the risks bankers are taking.

Two earlier schemes have helped the bank to transfer $17 billion of troubled loans and derivatives off its balance sheet and have also allowed the bank to save about $1.4 billion on cash or share-based bonus payments.

Further details of the Plus Bond, which will have a "similar" structure and composition to the 2011 scheme, will be announced to staff later in January, a spokesman has said. ($1 = 0.9123 Swiss francs)

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa offers gun control ideas to Vice President Joe Biden

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined Friday in the call for a ban on assault weapons as well as the need to appoint a director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as part of more than a dozen recommendation to deal with gun violence.

In a letter to Vice President Joe Biden, Villaraigosa cited programs that have worked in Los Angeles to reduce crime, including an increase in the number of police officers, the gun buyback programs and the gang reduction efforts as examples of what can be done.

Federal support for similar programs is needed across the country, Villaraigosa said, as well as a universal background check of gun purchasers and requiring gun owners to report when their weapons are lost or stolen,

Other proposals from the mayor include licensing of all ammunition sellers and requiring them to maintain records of those who purchase ammunition. He also wants to implement enhanced sentences when children are victims of shooting crimes, and re-emphasize the investigation and prosecution of gun crimes.

Villaraigosa also urged the federal government reinstate its research program into gun violence as a way to better understand the crimes.

Biden is chairing a task force for President Barack Obama to look into ways to deal with gun violence as a result of the shooting in Newtown, Conn.

(AP) ? With the war in Afghanistan winding down after 11 years, President Barack Obama says the time is right for U.S. forces to let Afghans do their own fighting.

In his radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama says U.S. forces will shift to a support role as Afghan soldiers take the lead in defending their country.

Obama met Friday with Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the White House and agreed that U.S. troops will go home in larger numbers starting this spring ? several months ahead of schedule. He says "America's war in Afghanistan will be over" by the end of 2014.

In the Republican address, freshman Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska says that with the "fiscal cliff" averted, Congress and the president must focus on cutting "out-of-control" government spending.

Oil prices down

BANGKOK (AP) ? Oil prices edged down today following a rise in China's inflation that if sustained could limit measures to support growth.

Benchmark oil for February delivery was down three cents to $93.79 per barrel at late afternoon Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The contract rose 72 cents to finish at $93.82 a barrel in New York on Thursday, a gain that traders attributed to a rebound in China's trade growth, which suggests a possible recovery in global demand.

Data released Thursday showed China's export growth in December more than quadrupled from the previous month's level to 14 percent. Imports rose 6 percent, after failing to grow at all in November, in a sign of increasing domestic demand.

The dos and don'ts of buying business travel - Business Review ...

By David Chapple, Event Director, Business Travel Show

For the majority of SMEs, buying business travel is rarely a priority and few companies have a structure or policy in place. Instead they purchase it as and when required and often by the traveller themself through an online leisure site.

However, by allowing employees to book independently, SMEs are wasting time and money. For an executive earning ?60,000 for example, a morning spent searching and booking travel will cost your organisation ?128 in lost time and billing. If you have 20 travellers making 20 trips a year all booking independently, that?s the equivalent of over ?51,000 of billable hours wasted.?

David Chapple.jpg

So what is the alternative for SMEs operating in a price-driven environment? They may not have the buying power to negotiate discounts, but they certainly buy smarter, save the company time and effort, and enjoy increased benefits and rewards from suppliers by following these simple dos and don?ts.

1???????? DO appoint a travel manager and introduce a travel policy.?Appoint a member of your management support team to take responsibility for buying business travel and work with them to introduce a company-wide travel policy to control spending and reporting.?

?

2???????? DON?T use online leisure travel agents. They eat up time and charge hidden fees. If you know what you want to book, go direct ? you?ll get better service and equally good prices.

?

3???????? DO ask the experts. If you don?t know what to book and the majority of your business travel is domestic, use rail and hotel booking agents. They will save you time, and HBAs don?t even charge. They also have access to a much wider choice of accommodation to suit all budgets. If you buy flights, use a local business travel agent like Advantage Business Travel or Uniglobe to deal with the more complex itineraries. For a small fee, they will save you hours.

?

4???????? DO stay loyal.Loyalty pays. By signing up for programmes that reward companies AND travellers, you can use kickbacks ? such as free upgrades ? to get more for your money. Most major airlines and hotel groups operate reward schemes and the good news is that, thanks to the recession, they are on the rise.?

Business Travel Blopg 2.jpg

?

5???????? DO look at the complete picture. Booking the cheapest but not the nearest hotel room, for example, may end up costing you more when you factor in extras such as cab fares, parking fees, airport transfers, internet charges and the time and hassle it takes to get to your meeting.

?

6???????? DO book ahead. Planning ahead can help you buy quality services for less. ?Fly mid- week or out of season, purchase a multi-city ticket rather than a round trip fare, bundle your flights and accommodation, buy a restricted ticket and stick to your plan rather than fork out for a fully flexible fare! And for rail travel ? never buy tickets at the station, it will cost you 30-40 percent more.

?

7???????? DO visit the Business Travel Show. The show takes place in London on 5-6 February 2013, and is Europe?s main exhibition and conference for corporate travel bookers to source, learn and network so it?s the perfect place for your travel booker to find new suppliers and leave with a vat of new knowledge. You can register for free at www.businesstravelshow.com.?

Inaugural pastor withdraws over anti-gay remarks

The evangelical pastor chosen to give the benediction at President Barack Obama's inauguration withdrew from the ceremony Thursday after remarks he made two decades ago condemning the gay rights movement surfaced.

The Rev. Louie Giglio of Passion City Church in Atlanta said in a statement he withdrew because it was likely that the "prayer I would offer will be dwarfed by those seeking to make their agenda the focal point of the inauguration."

Addie Whisenant, a spokeswoman for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, said the committee had chosen Giglio because of his work to end human trafficking.

"We were not aware of Pastor Giglio's past comments at the time of his selection and they don't reflect our desire to celebrate the strength and diversity of our country at this inaugural," Whisenant said in a statement.

The liberal website ThinkProgress posted audio of the sermon Wednesday. In the talk, which the pastor said he gave 15 or 20 years ago, Giglio cited Scripture and called same-sex relationships sinful and an abomination. He warned congregants about what he called the "aggressive agenda" for acceptance of the "homosexual lifestyle." And he recommended the writings of an advocate for therapy that aims to convert gays and lesbians into heterosexuals. Repeatedly in the sermon, Giglio urged congregants to welcome gays and lesbians to the church and said God loves them.

In Thursday's statement, Giglio said "speaking on this issue has not been in the range of my priorities in the past 15 years."

Obama's inaugural planners have put an emphasis on reflecting diversity in the festivities, including the participation of conservative Christians and gay Americans. Obama personally selected Richard Blanco, whose work explores his experience as a Cuban-American gay man, as the inaugural poet. And the Lesbian and Gay Band Association of St. Louis was one of the first selections to march in the inaugural parade.

An inaugural official said the Presidential Inaugural Committee vetted Giglio. But their statement said they didn't know about that particular sermon. Whisenant said the committee was considering others to deliver the benediction at the Jan. 21 event.

Ross Murray, the faith program director for the gay advocacy group GLAAD, urged the committee to choose someone for the role who reflects "the growing sentiment in the U.S. and in faith communities that LGBT people are full and equal parts of society."

Obama faced a similar uproar in 2009, when he chose prominent pastor Rick Warren to give the inaugural benediction as an olive branch to evangelicals, who overwhelmingly vote Republican. Warren had compared gay relationships to incest and pedophilia. He had also urged congregants at his Saddleback Church in California to support the Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage on the 2008 state ballot. Despite pressure from gay rights advocates for Warren to bow out, the pastor gave the benediction.

(AP Photo/David Guttenfelder)

(AP) ? A private delegation including Google's Eric Schmidt is urging North Korea to allow more open Internet access and cellphones to benefit its citizens, the mission's leader said Wednesday in the country with some of the world's tightest controls on information.

Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson also said his nine-member group called on North Korea to put a moratorium on missile launches and nuclear tests that have prompted U.N. sanctions, and the delegation asked for fair and humane treatment for an American citizen detained. He spoke in an exclusive interview in Pyongyang with The Associated Press.

The visit has been criticized for appearing to hijack U.S. diplomacy and boost Pyongyang's profile after North Korea's latest, widely condemned rocket launch. Richardson has said has said the delegation is on a private, humanitarian trip.

Schmidt, the executive chairman of the U.S.-based Internet giant Google, is the highest-profile American business executive to visit North Korea since leader Kim Jong Un took power a year ago.

On Wednesday, Schmidt toured the frigid quarters of the brick building in central Pyongyang that is the heart of North Korea's own computer industry. He asked pointed questions about North Korea's new tablet computers as well as its Red Star operating system, and he briefly donned a pair of 3-D goggles during a tour of the Korea Computer Center.

Schmidt has not said publicly what he hopes to get out of his visit to North Korea. However, he has been a vocal proponent of Internet freedom and openness, and is publishing a book in April with Google Ideas think tank director Jared Cohen about the power of global connectivity in transforming people's lives, policies and politics.

Richardson told The Associated Press that his delegation was bringing a message that more openness would benefit North Korea. Most in the country have never logged onto the Internet, and the authoritarian government strictly limits access to the World Wide Web.

"The citizens of the DPRK (North Korea) will be better off with more cellphones and an active Internet. Those are the ... messages we've given to a variety of foreign policy officials, scientists" and government officials, Richardson said.

The four-day trip, which began Monday, is taking place at a delicate time in U.S.-North Korean relations. Less than a month ago, North Korea shot a satellite into space on a long-range rocket, a launch widely celebrated in Pyongyang but condemned by Washington and others as a banned test of missile technology.

The State Department criticized the trip as "unhelpful" at a time when the U.S. is rallying support for U.N. Security Council action.

Spokesman Peter Velasco said from Washington that he did not believe the delegation had been in contact with U.S. officials since they arrived in Pyongyang.

However, Richardson said the delegation has pressed the North Koreans for a moratorium on missile launches and nuclear tests.

In 2006 and 2009, North Korea followed up similar launches with nuclear tests. Pyongyang is believed to be working on mastering technology that would allow it to mount a nuclear device on a long-range rocket capable of striking the United States.

Richardson also said the delegation is pushing for "fair and humane treatment" of an American, Kenneth Bae, now in North Korean custody on suspicion of committing "hostile" acts against the state.

The group also has urged government officials and scientists to offer more cellphones and to open up the Internet to the North Korean people, he said.

North Korea has exercised strict control over its population of 24 million since it was founded by Kim Il Sung in 1948, including tight rules on the flow of information and close monitoring of the people's interaction with the outside world.

But as the Asian nation's tiny economy has languished in its isolation, the government has sought in recent years to turn its economy around by carefully and cautiously reaching out to foreign nations ? primarily neighboring China and Southeast Asian allies ? for help.

Young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who took power a year ago following the death of his father, Kim Jong Il, has made improving the economy a focal point of national policy for 2013, and has urged the people to expand their knowledge of science and technology to reach that goal.

Across the snowy capital, new propaganda signs and slogans reiterate those goals, exhorting the people to "break through the cutting edge" and "push back the frontiers" of science and technology in the spirit of the Dec. 12 space launch.

The number of cell phone users has surpassed 1.5 million in a few short years, with help from the Egyptian telecommunications giant Orascom, which provides a 3G cell phone service.

However, offering open Internet access has not been part of the strategy. Experts see North Korea as one of the least connected countries in the world.

Though global broadband Internet is available in North Korea, few have permission to log onto the World Wide Web. Those with computers and Internet access typically are restricted to a domestic Intranet site that filters the information and publications available to North Koreans.

On Tuesday, Schmidt, Richardson and their delegation chatted with students at Pyongyang's elite Kim Il Sung University who have permission to access the global Internet for research purposes.

On Wednesday, the group toured the main library in Pyongyang, the Grand People's Study House, where locals still in their winter coats were crowded into drafty, unheated halls at computers with Intranet access to the library's archive of books, documents and newspapers.

Later, the delegation visited the multi-story Korea Computer Center, the hub of North Korea's software and computer product development, where a quote from Kim Jong Il reads: "Now is the era for science and technology. It is the era of computers."

Inside an atrium exhibition hall lined with widescreen displays showing off North Korea's computer products, the Google group fiddled around with the new Samjiyon tablet computer utilizing foreign-made hardware and North Korean software and linked to the Internet through a wifi router.

They learned about North Korea's data encryption software, face recognition devices, video chat room software and instant messaging services.

So far, the computer center has teamed up with nations including China, Russia and India to develop products ? but is hoping to reach out to establish partnerships with other countries also, officials told Schmidt and Richardson.

Schmidt, who as chief executive of Google until 2011 oversaw the Internet search provider's expansion into a global Internet giant, speaks frequently about the importance of providing people around the world with Internet access and technology.

Google now has offices in more than 40 countries, including Russia, South Korea and China, another country criticized for systematic Internet censorship.

There are no major U.S. firms operating in North Korea, which fought against the United States in the Korean War of the 1950s. The foes signed a truce in 1953 to end the fighting, but never a peace treaty, and the two countries still do not have diplomatic relations.

U.N. sanctions ban the trade with North Korea of weapons and items that could be used for nuclear purposes, as well as luxury items. The U.S. also prohibits the import of North Korean-made goods into the United States.

Some conservatives in the United States have had harsh criticism of the Schmidt-Richardson trip.

Schmidt and Richardson "have joined the long list of Americans and others used by the Kim family dictatorship for political advantage," John Bolton, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during the George W. Bush administration, wrote in the New York Daily News.

"North Korea has repeatedly welcomed prominent Americans to help elevate its stature. It is seeking direct negotiations with Washington, for in the distorted vision of the nation's leadership, this might lead to full diplomatic recognition and 'equal' status in the world community."
